A dental implant is a surgical component that attaches to the jaw bone and supports dental work such as crowns, bridges, dentures and acts as an orthodontic anchor. The foundation of modern dental implants is a biological process called osseointegration where materials, such as titanium, adhere tightly to the bone. The implant is attached first, followed by other dental work (crown bridge ...). A bridge, crown or prosthesis is attached to the implant.
