Apicotomy is an oral surgical intervention that removes the tip of the tooth root and the surrounding periapical lesion (process). The periapical process occurs at the tips of the roots of avital teeth, when the necrotic content of the root canal causes constant irritation and causes the appearance of a chronic infection. Apicotomy or resection of the tip of the tooth root represents about 50% of all surgical procedures in routine oral surgical practice.
